Did you know that watch too much television can actually take time off of your life? According to an article from "The Guardian" that I listed below, a study in Australia that was also carried out by the British Journal of Sports Medicine shows that after the age of 25, every half hour to an hour of time spent watching tv could shorten your expected lifespan by about 20 minutes. Everyone enjoys watching television to some extent, and this is not to say to stop watching it altogether, but rather to show the importance of getting out and being physically active instead. Watching endless hours of television starts to rot the brain, so physical activity is a great way to continue building brain power. This can be done in numerous ways, such as a sport, lifting weights, or simply just going for a run or walk. You are also more likely to overeat when watching tv because your attention is on something other than your food, so again, physical activity plays a key role here. There is no shame in watching television, just remember how important it is to stay physically active even in your later years of life!

Wow, awesome blog. I totally agree that while there is no shame in watching TV, it's important to remember that it's necessary to stay physically active. In our modern age, this is seemingly the other way around, unfortunately. We as physical educators must strive to educate on the dangers of prolonged television usage! Overall, great blog and well written!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting! I did not know that watching 30-60 minutes of tv knocks of 20 minutes of your lifespan. I think this is really important because many people don't know how bad too much tv really is for them. Maybe if more people knew, they would watch less and instead be more physically active. The obesity rates may even go down.
